well, I didn't find much via the magic of the internet. a Google search for "what the hay" brought up a good deal more results than for "what the hey", though "hey" had some results too. so i think both versions may be acceptable. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22what+the+hay%22&btnG=Google+Search

i just trolled a couple of word/phrase origin sites, and couldn't find anything remotely related, though "making hay" seems to be a popular enough phrase. (i've never heard it before)

so here's my guess: maybe "hay" or "hey" are substitutes for hell. instead of What the hell, why not? What the hay, why not... ? i don't know, whatcha think kittykitty?

ha, I guess... know what? You just made me want to make one. What the hey/hay. Where'd that saying come from? and is it "hey" or "hay" - "what the hay?"

I'm drinking cold coffee right now 'cos I'm too lazy to get up. Gotta pee too as a matter of fact. Ditto about getting up.

geesh.

Ok, that's my post for the day.
