This may be old news to some of you, since the first beta was announced in April, BUT, I am ecstatic! I think I may just buy a mac. If I’m able to run all of my Windows software on a mac (with a Windows XP install and partition), well hellsbells, why not?? And from all that I’ve read about it, sounds like it’s a winner.
Heaven only knows that I’ve just about had it with Dell. There is no way in hell that hubby would permit another Dell PC in this house. Oh sure, I’ve had pretty good luck with the 4 Dells that I’ve had (with Mumsy’s machines included), but they’re getting more difficult to tolerate – mainly because of their proprietory hardware and their tech support.
I really do want to join the devoted mac club… I want to see what all the hoopla is about. Besides, how could the new iMac design with a 24″ display be anything less than perfect? And you know what? Last nite I put a dream machine on my “wish list” over on the Apple site, and guess who just called me to see if they could offer me any assistance or answer any questions about the system? Yup, Apple. Like Dell has ever, or would ever, do such a thing. Right.
Hubby just told me not to put it off – go for it! We’re going to give my step-son this current pc for Christmas.
Aren’t you excited for me? Just had to share.

dropping off some advice…
The main reason I won’t go with the dual OS is because there is no “fast” switching. IOW, if you need to take a quick look at something on Win IE, and you’re currently in Mac, you have to reboot into Windows to do what you want to do. Not real convenient for proofing – or accounting. It would mean tens of reboots per day.
My advice: go ahead get the mac, keep your current PC, network them. Build up your mac software library over time. ;-)
**Warning**
Your PC will begin to suffer from neglect and curse at you when you’re not around. heh.

I was also reading about… umm… “Parallels” ? Not related to the Boot Camp tho, right? Don’t think I read great stuff about it.
Can’t keep this pc, or it would defeat the purpose.
Well, we shall see what happens.

Hmm. I’ve decided that for Christmas, I’m getting myself a new computer, and wanted to go with Dell. However, you’re the fourth person I’ve read that had less than stellar reviews of them. Shoot. I’m kind of intimidated by the Mac, because I’ve used them so little. I’m interested to see how it works out for you though!

weeeeeeellllll….. Don’t know anything about Parallel – though, ask Dan because he keeps up on that “fringe” stuff more than I do.
Not sure what kind of problems you’re having with the Dell, but, before you jump with both feet on the Bootcamp thing, double check that all of your PC software will run on it. Seems to me I remember hearing that certain apps don’t work right due to some kind of switching thingy majiggy thing. (Dan, where the hell are you???)
Michelle… don’t be intimidated. Go to an Apple store, lay hands on one. You won’t feel that way for long. ;-)

Apologies to my friend (love you patti!!) but I’d like to take both macs in this house, anchor them to some concrete and chuck them in the lake. I love my Dells though. So much so that I have…. runs off to count… six of them! There are not words for how much I despise the iBook. I actually sold a Dell laptop to get it and I regret it so much. What hardware is proprietary in a Dell? I only buy servers and mold them into what I want. Everything in them seems to be easily obtained from Tiger Direct or any other store.

Oh, heck, I get the two confused. I’ll go check in on a couple of places and see what they have to say. …but yeah, make sure your aps will run; I’m thinking your stuff is loaded up a bit on the video side, and that’s where some of the problems are likely to occur.

Actually, my main concern is NOF, and all the Adobe stuff… I dunno, I think the initial excitement is wearing off.
I just don’t know what other company, with a super duper pc package, would be the best?!
