We’re going to remodel our kitchen and 2 bathrooms. In the 25 yrs that we’ve lived here, we have never done anything to the inside of our house, other than some aesthetical stuff here n’ there.
I know that it’s expensive, but having never done it before, I’m blown away by the cost! No, we’re not the DIY type of folks, like many of you guys – if anything, I’m the one who does similar things like that… we also don’t traditionally get additional estimates, ‘cos when we like someone and the price is right, it’s good enough for us.
But how in the world do you live with the upheaval in the house for a couple of months while the work is being done?? Yuck. It’s almost enough to discourge the remodeling… almost.
Other than that, I’m pretty damned excited about it! No more plaster and plastic tiled walls. Hallelujah, no more split tiles from a plethora of nail holes. And counter space… the list is endless. Plus! I won’t have to spring clean ‘cos we’re just getting rid of the dirty crap. ha!
Who knows, a new kitchen might make the food taste better too, yes?
That’s the latest news around here… and I’m sure it won’t be the last time you’ll hear about it! OH, speaking of 25-ish years, today is our 31st wedding anniversay. And they said it would never last…
:)

Living with the upheaval….
When I used to remodel houses, I used to take the clients out for dinner a couple of times during the process.
The first dinner happened right after the major demo was done, and before the wall trades showed up,(plumbers, electricians, HVAC folks) This helped sort out the surprises, like finding all of the steam supply lines in the wall you were going to install a door in, reviewing the plans to this point, and explaining that the house was gonna look like a war zone for a while, as the various trades did their thing, and waiting for the inspectors.
The second dinner was had just before the drywall went up, as the next week would be filled with mud, and dust from sanding.
Most folks live through remodeling, but it is a major disruption. The good news is the end game is where the blood, sweat and tears pay off.
Good Luck and Congrats!
