Lucky Day

Yay! Rosie puked today. Exactly 1 week and 2 days after she ate dad-in-law’s sock, she threw it up. *blurp* and there it was. 9 days since she swallowed it whole and it came out looking pretty much the same as when it went it. What the heck? Of course we freaked out after we found out she ate it last Saturday.

Tummy sockJim came in the house and noticed something flopping out of her mouth, so he reached in and pulled out a long, black, nylon sock of his dads – it was already half-way down her throat. We looked around for the other one and never found it so we assumed she had already eaten it. After double checking with our vet, we just sat it out, waiting for it to appear out of the other end, or for any change in her eating or drinking behavior… or anything out of the ordinary.

For the last 9 days, she has been eating, drinking, pooping, barking, playing and doing everything totally normal, so we questioned whether she even ate the darn thing, even though we never did find it anywhere. And then today. There it was, as smooth as can be – taa-daa. One slightly-slimy black nylon sock.

Seriously, how could that have happened? It had to have stayed IN her stomach and not passed into her bowel/intestines, but how could she eat? Why didn’t she get sick? It just blows my mind, really. I know that we were very, very lucky that nothing worse happened to our little RosieRosie girl. (and yes, I know it was kinda weird that I took a picture of the sock, but it wasn’t too gross).

Well for crying out loud, how come you never told me about Rosie’s little digestive adventure??? Yuck. And also weird. How come, if it was just laying around in her stomach (which isn’t really very big, is it, to hold an entire man’s sock??), how come it didnt get pushed down and around and around the intestines/colon/etc. and come on *out*?

It was stuck somewhere, obviously. Right? But then, if an entire sock was just sitting around IN her stomach how come acids and other icky-kaka things didn’t disintegrate the sock? Very mysterious. I mean, if she was eating and pooping that stuff out, why not the sock?

    Weird. Very weird.

Whatever. That was some strong material the sock was made of. Then you gotta think how uncomfortable it must have been for Rosie, eh? Hmmmm. You said she could bark, now that is totally freaky.

The whole thing is very unreal.. And I haven’t had any dinner yet, which I am going to have right *now*. I mean, what do I care, it was Rosie’s throat, not mine…..didn’t bother me one little bit, really. Har Har

But I’m still in a bit of a snit because you didn’t tell me something so dramatic happened to a beloved family member for heaven’s sake!! That really hurt my feelings, ya know? I may not be able to eat anything now!

    Yeah, right. heehee

God, how weird! Pets and their strange eating habits. You are lucky the sock came out.

My girlfriend back in High School had a Golden Lab puppy that ate a pair of her cotton “Carter” underwear (that was a brand name) Not sure whatever happened…I mean if the puppy barfed it up or whatever. But after that adventure, my girlfriend decided to name her dog “Carter” :)
