old dog, new tricks…

June 26, 2008 2 Comments

I am so thrilled to discover something that I just had to share it with someone. I discovered the magic of working with and adjusting levels in Photoshop. Yes, levels. I know, I know… well duh to me. Seriously, I had 2 pieces of scanned artwork that I had to merge together, and the colors didn’t match up. Well I just whipped out that level adjustment, messed around for a bit, and Voila! I got them to match! I am so excited.  :)

Want to know about something else? A couple of weeks ago I bought a brand new, in the box, Krup’s Mini Espresso/Cappuccino maker I found on Craig’s list – for $10 – and it is soooo yummy. Easy to make and froth up my milk… mm-mm-good.

A-n-ddd, last but certainly not least, my LR is almost done! In fact, it would have been done had our contractor not calculated incorrectly and had one more piece of oak for the ceiling beams… so now he’ll have to finish it on Monday. poo. It looks really cool. Can’t wait to show you.

So, that’s my happy news for the week. HappyHappyHappy!

**OH, know what’s not so happy? The party is over at iStock photo. Yup, the big boys have wrecked a good thing, it was only a matter of time before Getty hiked up the prices. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Peace n’ Luv… n’ Joe Sorren

June 5, 2008 Leave a Comment

Hiya guys! I’ve been setting up a client site entirely in WP and now it feels funny to be the user… know what I mean?

ArcanumLook what I did. Finally got one of my prints framed (see bigger) Man-o-man, only took me 4 yrs or so. geesh.

I’m probably going to hang it in the living room when we’re done remodeling it, except I don’t know if that’s too wise since I’m in here more than in there, but it’s pretty big. We shall see.

Speaking of Joe Sorren, have you seen his newest blog? I love seeing the progress of his painting, which he goes through here. Of course Lori’s been posting progress shots for quite awhile, right Lori?

1968 Hippy-landAnd I know that I’ve talked about how watching “hippie-ish” shows gives me serious flashbacks, yes? Well, I was just watching Hippies on the History channel, and it still leaves me with such an… “awwww” & “oh to be there again” type o’ feeling. When in actuality, besides the fun, peace n’ love, I was pretty messed up in those days. Teen angst, generation gap… you know. But again, it made me sad when they showed Abby Hoffman & Jerry Rubin et al. Oh well, t’was the day.

Okay then. I think that’s it for now. I should upgrade this version of WP one of these days. I’m just kind of afraid I might lose stuff, ya know?

Alrighty, talk to you later!

PrettyPretty Glass

December 9, 2007 2 Comments

I remember now what I wanted to show you. After I checked on Lori, her last post about an artsy crochet technique (I know that’s simplifying it), reminded me of another artsy kind-o-technique, only with glass.

I’m working with a new client who creates beads, and she told me about Kim Neely who creates the most beautiful lampwork beads that I have ever seen. And apparently, through some scientific glass thing (forgive me if I don’t know the technical wording), but she creates beads with only ONE color of glass, to get this effect. This one as well. One color! Of course that isn’t the only style that she does – the rest of her work is just amazing. Wow.

ANYway, that’s that. OH, and Lori, I want to see a pic of your heads too! (relates to a post a couple of entries below).

Happy Sunday.
GO PACK!!

Vietnam…

November 7, 2007 4 Comments

Remember that? I relaxed tonite – have to save lives tomorrow, and just wanted to chill. Cafe Press is also having a “shopkeepers” sale, so I played around a bit so that I could buy something for myself. I need winter sweats… (yes, I diddled around putting that shop back up – mainly for myself & for holiday gifts for the fam…)

Made some items with the quote that you saw a lot during the Vietnam War… “War is not good for children and other living things,” except if I remember correctly, at the bottom of the flower was an army helmet, no?

ANYway, I must get my flower-child ass to bed… c’yall later.

eyeballing it

July 12, 2007 Leave a Comment

So I keep holding up paint chips from my vantage point in here… hold it up to the kitchen area, down to the counter pieces on my desk… with one eye open and the other squinty. Why do we do that? Close one eye to visualize the scene better? Does it really work? More in focus? You know, thumb in the air and one eyeball look a la artiste?

I think part of me wants to take this opportunity to go darker with the paint… I want to be cool and trendy and do the dark paint thing, at least on one wall. I want to be David Bromstad and create a “Color Splash.” But I honestly don’t think it will fit in my kitchen-into-the-dining-room color scheme. Very frustrating. poo.

Oh well, it will eventually come to me. Eventually. Everything will come together in the next month and I’ll be a happy camper, right?

OH, and art vs craft was groovy. Was cool ‘cos I met Dwellephant (from the interview) and Kelle & Matt from My Favorite Mirror. Bought some AshleyG coasters… awww, so cute. Speaking of art, Jennie is doing some live painting at this summer’s Gallery Night event. That should be fun.

Ok then. That should do it for now. Onward! This is going to be a get down, get dirty sort of work day. Must catch up! Have a great weekend all.

Art vs Craft

July 5, 2007 Leave a Comment

Looking forward to an event on Saturday – Art vs Craft. Going with Jennie to peruse the goodies, hopefully will find something fun. Get away from the house dust and decision making. Still confused about what paint colors to choose.

Thing is, when you see the kitchen, you will also see the dining room past that, which includes a coved ceiling. Ideally, I’d like to have the kitchen lighter, dining room walls a little bit darker/contrast-y maybe, with the ceiling of the DR even a bit darker. Well, something like that. I think.

Same with the light fixtures. Don’t want them all mixy-matchy, ya know? Whatever. My mind is full to the brim with house thoughts. Need a break. pssst, cabinets going in tomorrow! woo-woo. Maybe once they’re up it will be easier to choose the paint colors, hmm?

Ok then, that’s about it. I shall report in if I find anything groovy on Saturday, k?
xoxo
