PrettyPretty Glass

December 9, 2007 2 Comments

I remember now what I wanted to show you. After I checked on Lori, her last post about an artsy crochet technique (I know that’s simplifying it), reminded me of another artsy kind-o-technique, only with glass.

I’m working with a new client who creates beads, and she told me about Kim Neely who creates the most beautiful lampwork beads that I have ever seen. And apparently, through some scientific glass thing (forgive me if I don’t know the technical wording), but she creates beads with only ONE color of glass, to get this effect. This one as well. One color! Of course that isn’t the only style that she does – the rest of her work is just amazing. Wow.

ANYway, that’s that. OH, and Lori, I want to see a pic of your heads too! (relates to a post a couple of entries below).

Happy Sunday.
GO PACK!!

But you already knew that, yes? Brett – Brett Favre. Isn’t he the greatest?

Actually, the main reason that I’m popping in is to share a really simple, but extremely useful little program. You may even know about it already, but I just found it.

If you’re anything like me and collect PS brushes, this opensource Brush Viewer is wonderful. How often are you working in PS and go to load some new brushes and can’t exactly remember which is which? or which one was that really cool brush with the swirly dealies… Anyway, the ABR Viewer can display any of the brushes – just open it up and browse your brushes. Of course, you still have to remember after you see them, but I spent a bit of time and organized my brush folders, so that helps. woowee. Excitement abounds!

And that’s about it for me… re-opened my little Cafe Press store. Mainly because I want to buy myself something – ha! That’s about the only thing it’s good for, ya know? And personalized Christmas gifts. But it’s fun. Gave me something non-work related to do for a change.

Okee doke, have a groovy week guys.

goodie!

I went to see Vince today – he coughed his own breathing tube out, and everything is cool. He’s talking, although a little groggy, and making sense too! Said that “they were trying to kill me… had a hose down my throat!”

ahhh, thank goodness. Yes, he’ll have to rehab it I’m sure, but should be ok. That was really scarey. geeez. I’m so thankful. I can’t even imagine what so many others have gone through that haven’t been so fortunate.

And now hubby is trying out our new whirlpool tub. That is, after he almost threw the shower curtain and rod out the window. It’s one of those tension rods, you know what I’m talking about… and it apparently came down on him. He couldn’t get it back into position and was having a fit… standing there all nekid and swearing and swingin’ in the breeze. But he finally got it. Now it sounds like there’s a jet engine in there… hope it helps him (bad owie knee).

Ok, just wanted to share the good news about Vinnie.
Life is good.

color my room

July 27, 2007 Leave a Comment

I have just discovered the very coolness of a color-by-numbers program. Actually, that’s the name of the thing – CBN. If you’re in the same situation as I am – can’t figure out what the hell colors that you’re going to use to paint your walls – this CBN Selector is the ticket!

The other day Jennie suggested that I Photoshop my pics with a palette of colors. Thing about that is, then what? Sure, I’d have some idea of the way certain colors would look, but CBN actually uses the paint names from your choice of companies… like Behr, Benjamin Moore, Martha, etc. etc., so that if you like a combo, you’ll have all of the names of them.

Very cool. And YESyesyes, the counter, appliances and faucet are all up and functional! Tomorrow going to get the cabinet hardware. I’ll see if I can do a “choose the colors” photo thing, and show you tomorrow, k?

Burrrrrrr

April 19, 2007 Leave a Comment

Being a frequent flyer at Starbucks has its privileges. I’ve had my eye on a burr grinder for awhile now, but really couldn’t justify spending $125 on one. Their Barista brand went on sale not long ago - the same time that I bought a French Press from them. As it turns out, they remained on sale because they’re not carrying that style any longer. So. Now it’s 49.99. Hmmm… still not sure about spending that, even though now I could justify it since I need 2 different grinds of coffee – coarse for the press, and fine for the brewer.

Burr grinders are best

The point of this post is that one of the Baristas offered to let me use her 30% employee discount, so I got it for $35.00! yay.

How’s the remodeling going you ask? Well, he’s painting the downstairs bathroom (yes, he is – he can do it faster and better than we can. Besides, I hate to paint walls), and the tile should go in tomorrow. I tell ya, I sure miss that 2nd toilet.

Ok, gotta get ready to pick up Mumsy. We’re going shop-ping, yes we are. It’s a good thing to get away from this desk for a change, yes? I think so.
Until later… xoxo

Lowes Virgin

April 1, 2007 Leave a Comment

Yes, ’tis true. I have never been inside of a Lowes store – until yesterday. OMG. Where have I been?? Good thing hubby was with me and wasn’t exactly in a shopping mode, or I would probably still be there!

Our primary mission was to buy the bathroom stuff, at least for the downstairs one. Thanks to the salesperson, we got the deal of the day. Since we’re going with a pedestal sink, he showed us a custom order that was returned – a Kohler sink top (to the pedestal), normally $319.00, and we got it for $29.00!!! Can you imagine that? Perfectly normal, nothing wrong with it. Of course, we still had to purchase the actual pedestal, which was $197.00, but still! Holy moly – amazing.

Man, my head was swimming… looking at all of the different lighting… now that is what I will be going solo to shop for. Of course, we have so many projects in the works, including the dining room down the line, I just couldn’t help picking out stuff (mentally) for those rooms also. Especially since once the hole in the kitchen wall (for a breakfast bar thingie) is done, and we’ll be able to see through to the dining room, I want to have that chandelier put up right away – especially since we’ll have the contractor available to install it, ya know?

A few groovy linkolas for more stuff I’m dreaming of… for the dining room, where we have the original oak panels about 15 inches apart on all of the walls, wouldn’t just about any of these wallpaper treatments be stunning?! I’d still wallpaper over painting any day.

And the lighting… ooooo, lookie. Lowes has many many comparable lights, so that’s cool too.

Last, but certainly not least, we picked out our kitchen cabinet style – in knotty alder.

Did I tell you that we’re doing the upstairs bathroom with a wainscotting of white beadboard? And keeping the original style of the floor with those little white hexagon tiles with the black dots inbetween? I hope it turns out in reality like I see it in my head.

Ok, I’m done. I’m so darn distracted, but I really need to get some work done. Coffee time, yes?
c’yall later!
