blahblah Kitchen blahblah…

July 25, 2007 Leave a Comment

Of course it’s not *blahblah* for me, but it is a remodel update post. Most of the new lighting is up. That nite after they were installed (I had saved lives that day and didn’t see the update along the way), I stood in the dark and flipped the under cabinet lights off n’ on, the ceiling light, the over the sink recessed lights, and of course, the pendent lights look the coolest, so I just turned them on and simulated me sitting at my not-done-breakfast-bar, having my morning coffee and reading the paper. Very cool.

Today the counter tops are being installed, tomorrow the appliances are arriving, along with the plumber to hook the whole shabang up – sink n’ all. And an automatic icemaker within the freezer – oh joy! I really don’t like the schmutz on the outside of the door on a fridge, but the icemaker inside will be pure heaven since I drink so much iced tea and water. woohoo!

What else? The summer. Hope you’re all having a marvelous time. I really love summer. Heat, humidity, and all. I love driving with my top down, the sun on my face, and hearing the sounds of summer around me, and I get quite bummed when the season changes. I know a lot of people enjoy the fall weather, but to me, it makes me a bit melancholy because it’s simply a prologue to the cold and snowy winter ahead. brrrrrrr….

I’m in a chit-chatty mood this morning. What else ya wanna talk about? I know that Mumsy is probably gagging as she reads this, since she cannot WAIT until summer is over! Sorry Mom, I’ll turn the air on in the car when I pick you up tomorrow.
:)

Have you seen Bran’s baby birdies? The are adorable! Little babeees.

Well, s’pose I should start some work. You wouldn’t believe the sites that are in the works, but whose owners are in limbo for them because they’re having artistic blocks and have their lives to tend to sans web site. s’okay with me, there are plenty of other sites I’m working on as well. Yes, busy, but in a non-frenzied way. I believe it’s all secondary to the Summer thing I was referring to. Who wants to sit inside on a computer when the kids are home from school and there’s fun to be had outside?

My saving lives work days have been very sad this summer. W-a-y too many tragic accidents, paralyzing and sudden deaths. Many too young to die. Crying families and friends.

I can talk about it now, since it’s public information, but Frankie was a patient of ours for the last year or so. I was saddened and shocked that she passed away – she was a very vibrant and interesting woman. I will miss her colorful personality and conversations.

But enough of that… I’m outta there for now, don’t need to bring it home, right? Think it’s time for another pot o’ coffee. OH, which reminds me. Starbuck’s price increase. I may not buy the bags o’ beans in the future, it’s costly enough as it is (my regular treat to myself), but I can’t/won’t give up my venti-whatever at 5:30 in the morning on my way to the hospital. Besides, I rarely pay for it – my barista’s generously wave the cost of a cup for moi – frequently. The perks (ha! no pun intended) of being a frequent flyer. Or maybe because the $$ then goes into their tip cup? Whatever. I’ll just have to spend my money with the local roasters, which isn’t a bad thing. Good stuff as well. They just don’t open at 5:30.

OK. Must get busy. If you’re still with me here, have a WUNderful Wednesday, and I’ll c’ya next time.

up-diggity-date

Kind of quiet here about the kitchen progress, hmm? Things aren’t necessarily slowing down, just not as dramatic of changes happening. Although we did buy the lighting today. 7 fixtures. Oy. Tough decisions. I put a couple of them up if you wanna see.

Supposedly, straight from our contractor’s mouth, the kitchen will be “operational” next week. Not exactly sure what that means. Must clarify.

Still struggling with the paint colors… browsing around tonite I found some cool places you might like to oooo & ahhhh over. Started out looking at a Frank Lloyd Wright’s site and checking out the current Wright homes for sale – wow. I can’t imagine living in any one of those. Then just when I was doubting my inner voice about getting creative with the paint colors, I came across Cristina Acosta’s site. Oh my, her use of color in her home designs are absolutely gorgeous! Plus, she has a handful of articles on the site as well. yum.

Finally, if I had a bunch of $$, I would love to treat/paint the walls with clay. So loverly and warm…

‘hokay then, guess that should do it for now… think I’ll have a piece of bread, k?
c’yall later.

eyeballing it

July 12, 2007 Leave a Comment

So I keep holding up paint chips from my vantage point in here… hold it up to the kitchen area, down to the counter pieces on my desk… with one eye open and the other squinty. Why do we do that? Close one eye to visualize the scene better? Does it really work? More in focus? You know, thumb in the air and one eyeball look a la artiste?

I think part of me wants to take this opportunity to go darker with the paint… I want to be cool and trendy and do the dark paint thing, at least on one wall. I want to be David Bromstad and create a “Color Splash.” But I honestly don’t think it will fit in my kitchen-into-the-dining-room color scheme. Very frustrating. poo.

Oh well, it will eventually come to me. Eventually. Everything will come together in the next month and I’ll be a happy camper, right?

OH, and art vs craft was groovy. Was cool ‘cos I met Dwellephant (from the interview) and Kelle & Matt from My Favorite Mirror. Bought some AshleyG coasters… awww, so cute. Speaking of art, Jennie is doing some live painting at this summer’s Gallery Night event. That should be fun.

Ok then. That should do it for now. Onward! This is going to be a get down, get dirty sort of work day. Must catch up! Have a great weekend all.

Art vs Craft

July 5, 2007 Leave a Comment

Looking forward to an event on Saturday – Art vs Craft. Going with Jennie to peruse the goodies, hopefully will find something fun. Get away from the house dust and decision making. Still confused about what paint colors to choose.

Thing is, when you see the kitchen, you will also see the dining room past that, which includes a coved ceiling. Ideally, I’d like to have the kitchen lighter, dining room walls a little bit darker/contrast-y maybe, with the ceiling of the DR even a bit darker. Well, something like that. I think.

Same with the light fixtures. Don’t want them all mixy-matchy, ya know? Whatever. My mind is full to the brim with house thoughts. Need a break. pssst, cabinets going in tomorrow! woo-woo. Maybe once they’re up it will be easier to choose the paint colors, hmm?

Ok then, that’s about it. I shall report in if I find anything groovy on Saturday, k?
xoxo

I can see that there will be very little snacking tonite in the Mead household. I just went to get a popsicle and a soda for hubby… out the front door, walk in the rain, unlock the back door, go downstairs and grab the goods, then go back out and around and in again.

Oh, I know the entire neighborhood isn’t sitting, watching, and waiting to see what we’re going to do next – it just feels kinda funny. But I betcha that I’ll have more cravings for whatever I don’t have handy up here tonite, ya know? Usually works that way.

Anyway, y’all have an enjoyable 4th, k?

not so thrilling…

June 22, 2007 Leave a Comment

I think my present living arrangements are getting to me. I am getting tired of cleaning every day (new bathroom and my office – being the closest dust “catch-alls”). Sure, I’m getting plenty of exercise up and down the stairs 50 times a day, but not when I forget something on a trip that I purposefully went down for, and come up with something else.

Seriously, it’s bumming me out.

Ohhh, I know it’s a temporary thing, and of course it will all be worth it when it’s finally done, but in the meantime… blah.
So for now, all I want to do is sleep and sleep and sleep. And this from someone who never sleeps.

Did I tell you little (BIG) baby Rosie dog is afraid of the gates that we put up to block off the kitchen? Ya, she is. And psycho dog Lucy continues to bark NONstop all day in the crate downstairs. E.v.e.r.y. s.i.n.g.l.e. d.a.y.

Ok, that’s my bitch session for the weekend. Now I’m going to go plop down on the couch and veg.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
