can’t sleep

October 7, 2009 Leave a Comment

It’s unusual that I *can’t* sleep. I used to choose not to, but my routine has changed—I go to bed earlier and I get good sleep as a rule. I think because I’ve been so involved in redoing business stuff for Ink2Art that my brain is in a turbo-charged mode, and it just takes a long time to get it quieted down. Ha! just reminded me of yesterday when I was getting my hair done and my hairdresser was irked that she paid lots o’ $$ for the cords on her equipment and they still wound up getting tangled. She showed me a trick where she put the end of the cord under her closed door, then spun the thing around about 5 ft away to stretch it out—kind of like playing jump rope. Ya, my brain playing jump rope!

Actually, you know what popped into my head when I was trying to get to sleep? Crate boxing. I was crate boxing and I couldn’t stop. What the hell? I just kept visualizing the whole “body-in-a-box” kind of thing and was watching myself trying to box my way out… whoa! I just had a flash of an image that I used awhile back on an old site… now I must find it. Hang on a sec.

ah-HA! I found it! In fact there was a site I had up briefly associated with that image, “pulseless.com”, where I put a bunch of my domain names on… dang, why did I let some of those go? The old “keepsomethingforever-thenyougetridofit-andthenwantitagain” thing, right? I found the site on the Internet Archives, but I doubt the link will come up for you. You could try I s’pose. That was from May, 2001.

Boy, nothing like going off on a tangent, hmm? So where was I? Oh, in a crate. ya.

I think why I finally just stopped trying to fall back asleep is I figured I’d get stuff done now then take a little siesta later, right? What’s the dif what time I do it other than when I’m able to? Of course.

You wouldn’t believe what I was just doing. Well, you might have at one time… but I just looked up a handful of the domain names that I had before and many are still available! ooooo, you don’t know how tempting that was to me! *for those of you who may not know this little tidbit, I used to be ca-RAZ-y for domain names. Never particularly knew what I was going to do with’em, but any time a word or phrase would strike me, I’d think “Oh, that would be a cool name for a web site” and then I would register the domain name if it was available. mm-hmm, sure dodid.

Shoot, I’d better get back to what I was supposed to be doing before I started crate boxing! dork. c’yall later. xoxo

Redesigning my web site

August 6, 2009 Leave a Comment

It really takes more time & thought to redesign my own web site than any others. Probably because I’m more critical of myself and what I do to represent myself than how I feel otherwise, ya know? Plus, I need to feel totally satisfied with it so that I don’t have to do it again anytime in the near future.

splash

FullMoon Graphics has gone through a handful of revisions over the years (about 5 versions in 12 yrs…). I think the teal, retro-ish kitty was my fav. And it’s looking a little worn out & dusty to me… heck, the present design is from 2004! whoa. No wonder I’m sick of it!

It will take awhile. I recently made a vow to myself to take more time out to tend to my own needs instead of working practically ’round the clock… and getting burnt out & less efficient. duh. *light bulb moment*

So ya. I have a tiny seed of an idea that I’m going to play around with… but I will guarantee that I will do my best to not look like a million other designs out there, k?

The web, the press, and work

July 6, 2009 1 Comment

I’ve been working a lot these days and predominantly within the WordPress platform—for clients. Along with a plethora of new plugins, templates and WP upgrades, I am feeling the need to write & post stuff that I’m discovering along the way. Like right now.

First of all, I would love to spend some time on my own sites. I need to upgrade this blog. But until I do, I want to write about something that I honestly don’t want to forget, but don’t have anywhere to store it. I am certainly not going to count on my brain to remember everything that I’m thinking about right now!

So one of the things that I’m working on for a client requires that I look up people. Grab a photo of them and a brief bio, along with their web site address. It’s frustrating to find the web site and to not get access to a good photo as well as a snip of their bio. Must remember the following…

If you are promoting yourself via a web site, please have the following available for visitors:

  • A good, downloadable photo of yourself. Yes I know that’s subjective but at least have one outside of the header, not in Flash, and is fairly recent.
  • Ditto with your bio. Don’t make the text a graphic (or in Flash). If I have to transcribe a paragraph from an image to text, I am not happy and will make it as brief and probably less interesting than if I could copy and paste it from your site into mine.
  • Think like a reporter in search of a story. Make it as convenient and as easy as possible for busy people to grab your info. If I am on a deadline and must make a choice between Story A or Story B, I will choose the one that requires the least amount editing for me as well as the most interesting story for my readers. Hopefully that would be one and the same story.
  • Post the above info on your Bio web page with a link to a printable pdf file that is posted on a Press/Media page. That would be ideal and a reporter’s dream.

That is what I want to remember. Yes, common sense.

A perfect example of everything that I mentioned is on Lisa Daily’s web site. In my opinion she has covered all bases and it is visible on her Media Page. Lisa definitely knows what she’s doing.

Must get back to work… in fact I need to “practice what I preach.” My own biz site doesn’t have an ideal bio… :::GASP:::

Better git busy!
