dark, dark, darker…

August 22, 2008 Leave a Comment

Seems like just yesterday (couldn’t think of anything clever-er) that I was feeling so incredibly mellow, sitting here in the very early summer a.m. – when the sky was that deep-but-bright-saturated-blue. You know, around 4:30-ish? and there’s like 1 bird chirping? Probaby the longest day of summer. Early sunrise and late sunset. Compared to today. 5:15 and it was still dark. I just now noticed there’s no birds chirping? What’s up with that? and it’s 6:45? well that’s weird.

Anyway. Makes me sad. So damn fast and summer is gone. Oh sure, I know that there are plenty of warm days left. But no more early dark blue mornings. But you know what made me quite happy after the sad thoughts? Of course after summer is fall, and then comes winter, and guess who does not have to slosh out in the freezing, 5 feet of snow-blizzard scrape-off-her-car and almost get-in-an-accident-driving-to-work-weather any longer??? *ME* mememememe! yippee. So that helped me to feel better.

FacebookOne more thing. I fell prey to Facebook. Yup, sure did. And it’s all Krishanna’s fault. I really never paid attention to any of those “social networking” dealies, but I gotta tell ya, sure is addicting… at least for me it is. You know how you get in there and see one friend, which leads to 3 more and on and on… had to get out of there.

Ok, gotta go! ah, I hear a couple of birds now, but it really is kind of empty out there…

dirty little secret

August 21, 2008 Leave a Comment

My junk drawerSince our kitchen was remodeled, and now the rest of the house, I have been the model 50s housewife. Well, let’s just say that I clean now. More so than I have for the last 10 yrs. Heck, more so than when my daughter was a baby… when I was a stay-at-home mom. When I was still a guilty Catholic. I’m proud of myself. My home is really clean. Except for one little drawer. No, not really a junk drawer as I knew it before. But it’s still my dirty little secret. It’s where I store my coffee bags before I grind the beans. In fact, hubby actually gets peeved when there’s some coffee dust in the corners of the drawer.

Currently I am out of coffee (beans, NOT ground). But not for long. I even have to go grocery shopping today – imagine that! So of course I’ll make a coffee run.

But first I must vacuum. Yes indeedy. Thursday is vacuum day.
(no, I’m not that 50s, geesh, are you serious? ya, and I have my Thursday underwear on too)

Happy Birthday to Rosie-Girl-Baby-Doggie

Rosie Baby - Our American Bulldog is 2 yrs old!Lest I forget, baby Rosie is 2 yrs old. Updated her baby book… as is usual and customary, the pics are getting fewer and farther between. Isn’t that the way it goes?

Which reminds me. When I was watching the Woodstock movie over the weekend, I was thinking, “man, I wish I had pictures of me & my friends from those days.” But you know, we didn’t exactly carry around cameras like kids do now (well, if they do… and I think they do, if not in their phones). And it’s not like we were around with the fam for the group pics either. Probably the only photos of me around that time are the ones from the detention center… did they take them like they do when you’re arrested? hmm, don’t remember. Well, I’m exaggerating. I just said that for effect. I was only taken in once… or so. Really.

*oh, btw, can you tell by looking at Rosie’s pics that she’s daddy’s girl?

Mark Ryden Rose

Mark Ryden Rose PinUn-fockin’ believable. Here I was, waiting and refreshing the Mark Ryden page where his little Rose pin was going on sale at 11:00 sharp (my time). BOOM! There it is, get it in my cart, OH NO, what’s my password?? Damn, had everything else ready – OH YA, ok, BOOM, go to check out. WTF?? SOLD freakin’ OUT? At 11:02? With 500 editions? I am in shock. Seriously. I mean, I know the stuff goes fast, like faster than a sonic boom, but that really blew my mind. Probably happened because #1. it was inexpensive. #2. you could buy 4 of ’em and #3., well, just because. geesh.

The finger and a J.O.B.

August 19, 2008 4 Comments

Does this look like the girl is giving the finger? That’s what one of FMG’s visitors wrote to tell me, “WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A PICTURE OF SOME WOMAN GIVING THE FINGER?  PRETTY CRUDE.” Ya, in all caps too. Whatever. Coulda been a joke too… I hope it was.

Hey, guess what. *News Alert* My retired hubby has joined the working force once again. He was more-or-less personally invited, pleaded with, to come back to a job he had 40 years ago! Metal Spinning. Manually. It’s really a lost art these days, and when he was talking with one of the guys that he used to work with about the Harley thing (and who still works at the place) he got the scoop about how they needed someone. Soooo, given our present situation with the no-saving-lives-anymore-kittykitty and no health benefits, he thought, “what the hell” and climbed aboard.

Can I get a YAYmen! Hallelujah! Although I am a little sad that I’m losing my Cabana Boy. Sure has been nice these last couple of years having him do everything around here. Oh, he’ll still do his thing, just not as much. s’ok, didn’t really want to be a Barista anyway.

woowee.
think the meter-man is here… bye.

Fortunate in so many ways

This morning on one of the a.m. talk shows they had a librarian who was describing a program for kids at our library, to encourage reading, to get children interested at an early age and so forth. I thought back to my own childhood, and one of my earliest memories is lying in bed next to my mom while she was reading a paperback, with just the little light reflecting on the pages before I fell asleep.

Jennie is reading a book to Poo-BearI cannot imagine growing up without books. Without reading ALL of the time as an adult (before pc I hate to admit). Reading has made me more knowledgeable about subjects that I would never know about otherwise and that’s just from reading fiction! Reading has made me a good speller, a smarter person and taken me to places out of this world.

How sad not to have a role model to teach a child how much fun it is to read. How tragic not to know that what’s inside a book cover has the ability to absolutely change your life forever. It blows my mind. Thank God for people like that librarian, and anyone like her who cares and has the patience, tolerance, and essentially, a “calling” to do such meaningful work.
