Artist’s Bio

October 18, 2010 2 Comments

When I visit artist websites and I like their work, the 2nd page I go to is their bio–the About Me page.

Did you ever notice that many of them write, “I’ve always been into art.” Ever read one that said, “I never enjoyed art and was forced to pursue it against my will”?

Valid Art Links

February 3, 2010 Leave a Comment

At the very least, I do validate the topsy turvy links on the linkola page of Art Beat Street once in awhile. Surprisingly not too many disappear. One site that was very disappointing to me was the Glubibulga (slap-press) site who greeted me with an odd sex/porn type o’ ad overlaw. Huh? I just revisited and it’s not there… maybe it’s a one time cookie thing, who knows.

I realize there’s a bazillion more artists and sites and collectives, but a few years ago I guess I just gave up. Especially when so many of the new sites have groovy thumbnails & such, ya know? I wouldn’t mind doing an interview on occasion, so I’m not ruling that out… in fact, I think I just had a little lite bulb appear above my head… hmm. We shall see. Maybe it’s just like that other idea I’ve been pondering…

I dunno, do you think the site is still useful? Even if a little antiquated?

New site & flashbacks

January 15, 2010 Leave a Comment

I’m doing a little “info gathering” for a new, personal site I’m working on… or at the very least, considering. So, for a few ideas and time-saving graphics (already designed) I began hunting & pecking through some oldie-moldie folders. One of the first places I visited was my old 24-7cool.com archives. awwww, remember?

My hitch-hiking map

Kitty Roads Traveled

I remember how much work I put into that page… mapped my hitch-hiking paths with little annotations for each location.

24-7cool, version... ?

Comic Book Style

Then I redesigned the site with a variety of “Good Girl” comic book covers, customizing with Kitty content. Not sure which version that design was, but I think the original version was probably my fav.

Needless to say, I got a bit distracted from what I set out to do, but it was kind of fun digging around some of that stuff, ya know?

Time so flies when I have those darn flashbacks!
Alritey, better get this booty to bed… and if I do follow through with that new site, I’ll let y’all know, k? xo

Basquiat, Warhol

January 8, 2010 Leave a Comment

For some odd reason I feel like watching the (old) movie about Jean Michel Basquiat. When it made the rounds on cable awhile back, having seen it many times before, I didn’t want to watch it again because it kind of bummed me out—made me sad (Similar to the feelings I had after viewing “Ray” with Jamie Foxx).

Maybe it’s because our Milwaukee Art Museum just wrapped up an Andy Warhol exhibition, although I never particularly cared for Warhol’s work.

Oh well, go figure. It’s not on the horizon any time soon.

Here’s a few random thingies about Basquiat for your perusal… hmm, why isn’t Apture working? Well, how about I just do this….

No more beans…

November 24, 2009 5 Comments

beansI am crushed. It’s a sad, sad day… my staple (besides yogurt), my Imperial Edamame Beans are no longer sold at Sam’s Club. My 4 lb box containing 8 perfect sized bowls of podded beans is nowhere to be found.

Seriously, at 99 cals & about 8 gms of protein, they were the ideal snack-a-rooni. Now what? I used to get about 4 boxes a month. Dagnabbit.

Oh well. I shall survive… just barely, but I’ll try.

On another note – Windows 7. Mumsy bought a new pc and other than setting up the basics, I could have played with the new OS much much longer! Very cool at first glance. I don’t know about from a working standpoint, but the shininess and newness was pretty slick. Personally, I won’t convert until I get a new pc entirely. I’ll be due in about 6 mths or so. Just the tower. The memory available now blows my mind. And I thought I was pretty hot stuff 3 yrs ago with 4 megs of RAM… ahhh, technology.

And finally – painting colors & my prints. Since we’re remodeling Jennie’s old room into a guest room, I am once again tormented by what color to paint the walls. Seems pretty cut n’ dried – all neutral-ish except for one wall. The main “gallery” wall that I plan on hanging my Shag prints. I think I have 3 or 4 (yes, you know me & prints), but with all of the vibrant colors that he uses, I’m trying to remember which ones I have and of which “color scheme” they are. Actually, I think I have an orangey-pink-red one as well as an all-around blue, teal, greenish one, so I think it will be pretty much a crap shoot what color I paint the wall. Maybe a limey-but-not-blinding greenish… it’s a very bright room… we shall see. I’ll surprise us, k?

Alritey, time to make the donuts… OH, and if I don’t see you, have a marvelous Thanksgiving!!

Old book smells & animal art

October 15, 2009 Leave a Comment

Yesterday I was excited to received one of my latest purchases from eBay, the 26th ANNUAL OF ADVERTISING ART, 1947. I had barely made a tear in the packaging when I smelled that scent… that old, in-the-basement smell of stored books. You know what I mean, right? As I tore the wrapping off I inhaled deeper, “ahhhhh, just what I was waiting for” and of course I got all excited!  Hubby always asks me “What did you get that for?” Well geeez dude, I love to look at it. What does anyone buy books for? Silly. Great ads abound inside that book, not to mention a piece of history when they used dexadrine and cocaine (in Coca-Cola) for additives in every day items, such as in this Paul Rand ad.

Speaking of art, I’m looking forward to visiting the Tory Folliard Gallery for a new exhibit called When Animals Talk

I just wish my art touring buddy was going to be with me. Actually we’ll be taking a road trip down to vist Jennie & Brian soon. Can’t wait!
