Tonight I was thinking about deleting this blog. How long do I leave this up for just anyone to read the last 15 yrs of my life? Especially in the earlier years. When I first started blogging (yes, I just said that), very few people knew what a blog was.
“It’s a what?”
“Kind of like a diary.. a journal, and you write it online for other people to read. And they have a blog, and you read theirs. And comment. Kind of like a conversation, only not.”
“oh.”
My Mom even started blogging. At one point she was one of the “oldest bloggers” around. She was in her early 70s and Time magazine even called her for a little interview. She was extremely proud of that and would tell people that she was “published.” She’s in a nursing home now. Blogging years later, through a sequence of events, she was confined to a wheelchair and couldn’t take care of herself. So she moved to an assisted care residence. We fixed it all up, very cozy, and she had her computer – her lifeline (besides me) and where she spent most of her time. Shortly after, it was determined that she needed more than they could do for her. She needed a place that offered more care and so that she could get intensive physical rehab. She didn’t improve with her PT and moved to the “skilled nursing” part of the residence… ya, this is a lot later.. tying up loose ends on this blog. Sounds weird… later.

As some of you may know, Jim’s Dad has lived with us for the last 13 years, ever since his wife died. We wanted him close to us and not 500 miles away in Northern Wisconsin.
Little by little his body got older… macular degeneration messed with his ability to read the morning paper. His hearing aids barely seemed to work anymore, and when his balance frightened him, when he felt like he was going to fall, he stopped going to the gym.
We did get to talk to him the other day… soft spoken, staring into space but he knew it was us. We told him the dogs were missing him and that Rosie had taken residence in his chair. He got that quirkie little smile, just barely, but his eyes didn’t twinkle anymore.
